What is the Bride of Christ?

So many Christians think the Bride of Christ is the Church. Unfortunately, this viewpoint is in error. Scripture is very clear concerning the identity of the Bride of Christ. Rev.21:1-4 paints us a picture of a city descending down from heaven prepared as a bride. One of the angels in Rev.21:9-10 goes even further and reveals or identifies New Jerusalem, the Holy City that is descending down from heaven to be the Bride of Christ. I know this doesn’t sit well with a lot of believers, but this is what is stated by the scripture.
The church is not the Bride of Christ. The church is the Body of Christ. Jesus is the head and the church is the body. The head plus the body makes one complete entity. Every individual has a head and a body. The Body of Christ (church) connected to the head (Jesus) makes a complete being.
Heb.4:14, states that Jesus is the son of God. According to Heb.1:2, Jesus, the son is the heir of all things. Every individual that is born again, has received the adoption of sons, thereby being rendered an heir; Gal.4:4-7. Because born again individuals (Body of Christ) are the children of God, they will be joint-heirs with Christ; Rom.8:14-17. Jesus is the head of the church (Body of Christ) and is an heir. The Body of Christ is literally connected to Jesus the head and is also joint-heir. This indicates that Jesus and the Body of Christ has become a unified heir.
There is something else to consider. If the head (Jesus) and the church (Body of Christ) are joint heirs, then it is conceivable that at the return of Christ (head) for the church (Body of Christ) is a union that joins together the head and the body to complete one entity. This entity is the groom. The groom (Christ plus the church) then enters the City (Bride of Christ) to dwell there and this is called consummation of the marriage. The church is not the Bride of Christ. It is the Body of Christ because it is a joint-heir with Christ and they dwell in the Bride of Christ, which is the Holy City, New Jerusalem.
