The red horse in Revelation 6:4 represents some a kind of turmoil. Symbolically speaking, red is the color of fire, and one of the characteristics of fire is to consume and destroy. Note the Strong’s number for “red” is #G4450. That reference to fire is only used in the KJV 2 times. Both times it is associated with a robust and powerful animal. In Revelation 6:4, it’s linked to a red horse and in Revelation 12:3, it is associated with a dragon. According to fables and mythology, dragons are fire-breathing creatures that devour everything in its path. The red horse ushers in a time of tremendous struggle for the inhabitants of Israel.
Revelation 6:4 continued by stating that the rider on the red horse had a great sword and his mission was to take peace from the earth. Swords are instruments used for one purpose and one purpose only, taking life. His mission is clear, and he does not hesitate to accomplish his objective. Comparatively speaking, the opposite of peace is war. The red horse signifies war and destruction, and it is the rider on the red horse at fulfills that assignment.
